Abstract

Started in 2000, this cooperative sees a group of 20 women engaged in local craft work. With them, 5 other women are responsible for making school uniforms. This activity enables them to meet the needs of their families, where the husbands are mostly absent/unemployed or engaged in livestock care.

The SMC in charge of the group is engaged in an educational journey that takes its cue from the Charism of the Founder, in which the accompaniment of people for their own and others' regeneration is a fundamental part of every commitment and initiative.

The main objectives are: to help women acquire a level of social promotion appropriate to the times; to make mothers aware of the meaning and importance of sending their children to school; to accompany the group in assuming ethical and spiritual values and help them set parameters for their behaviour that make human dignity shine through in its fullness.

Among the many significant changes brought about by the women's long experience in the social and family spheres is a greater awareness of how best to influence the culture, particularly in relation to polygamy and alcoholism.

The cooperative is self-managed with the women's work; the school project for orphaned students supported by these women is more difficult, also because the world economic crisis has greatly affected the stability of the school programme.
